Enjoy a green potato chip

Posted on: July 28, 2010

I bought a bag of Sun Chips a couple of weeks ago to keep the kids happy on a road trip. To my surprise, Sun Chips’ new packaging is 100% compostable! Just throw it into the compost bin with all of your organic waste and let nature take care of it.

I should not have been surprised because for years Frito Lay Canada has been one of the leading companies in reducing its environmental footprint while still maintaining solid and impressive business growth. Frito Lay has received dozens of awards in the US and Canada for its initiatives in improved energy efficiency, reduced packaging, waste diversion, and reduced water consumption. They are a great example of how green operating practices leads to increased profits.

Today I came across this news release (http://tinyurl.com/2fme2k7) from Partners in Project Green, an organization dedicated to working with businesses around the Toronto Airport to help them become more sustainable. The article describes the most recent green initiative by Frito-Lay Canada – introduction of a number of electric vehicles to their Canadian delivery fleet that result in zero GHG emissions.

So if you have the munchies, go for a green chip from this sustainability leader.

(By the way, Frito Lay is not a present or past Kuzuka client – we just like their products and how they choose to make them).
